Description
Welcome to St. James Parish! Also known as the, best kept secret found between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, where our resident's are bound by their families legacy.
About 22,000 residents reside in Lutcher, Romeville, Vacherie, Paulina, Gramercy and Hester along with the communities of Welcome, St. James, Convent and Union.
The Community of Convent serves as the Parish seat, including the Courthouse and offices of all elected and government officials.
St. James is surrounded by Ascension, St. John the Baptist, Lafourche and Assumption Parishes.
Along Highway 44, you will find the Mississippi River, that ties our vast growing industries to our Parish. Although the river divides the Parish into two parts, the east and west banks, residents are united by their heritage and the Veterans Memorial Bridge.
Currently, St James Parish has 7 elementary schools, 2 high schools and just minutes away from 11 different colleges or universities.
With our historical plantation homes, mouthwatering cajun cooking fit for a king and quaint community appeal, St. James Parish is a delightful breath of fresh air.
Join us for a festival or stop by for a tour and let the good times roll, or as we say in St James Parish, Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler.
When you cross into the St. James Parish, you know you're home.
