Description
The Tulane Anthropology Department began with the advent of Tulane's Department of Middle American Research (now the Middle American Research Institute) in 1924. The university offered its first anthropology courses in 1938-1939. By 1947, anthropologists were teaching courses in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. Tulane developed a separate Department of Anthropology in 1967. Anthropology at Tulane now has 19 faculty, between 100 and 150 undergraduate anthropology majors, and approximately 60 graduate students. Frequently Asked Questions
