Lee's Hamburgers

Description

Predominantly suburban, blue-collar and family-oriented. Checkered tablecloths and a series of framed posters contribute to an inconsistent diner-like atmosphere, accented by a self-starting jukebox (packed with '50s hits) and a counter/bar with red vinyl stools that runs against one wall. A narrow walkway leading to the order counter can make for long waits and often makes the place seem more crowded than it really is. Lee's signature burger comes two ways: the "original" and the "works," the latter heaped with extra fixings. Both feature chopped onions cooked into the patty, adding immeasurably to their flavor (even though they don't get a chance to caramelize fully). Grilled chicken and catfish sandwiches are also sturdy, but the burgers are the draw. Perfectly sized fries and agreeably greasy onion rings complete a limited but satisfying menu.
